This city, graced with gold and silver, had been a repository for the spoils of Alexander the Great. Antiochus, driven by greed, attempted to conquer it, but his plans crumbled as the vigilant citizens repelled his forces. Disheartened, he retreated, only to receive more distressing news: his forces in Judah had been decisively defeated by the resilient children of Israel.
